Researchers have found six more apps on the Google Play Store that reportedly steam login credentials and have been successfully removed from the platform. The irony here is that these apps are ‘anti-virus’ programs.
Six anti-virus programs were removed from the Play Store According to the researchers at CheckPoint, researchers have found 6 apps on the Google Play Store were downloaded over 15,000 times before the search engine giant removed them.
Bitdefender analysts recently uncovered a series of attacks that leverage office tools and image-editing software cracks to compromise computers, hijack crypto-currency wallets, and exfiltrate information via the TOR network. “Once executed, the crack drops an instance of ncat.exe (a legitimate tool to send raw data over the network) as well as a TOR proxy,” said Bitdefender’s Bogdan Botezatu, Director of Threat Research and Reporting and Security Researcher Eduard Budaca in a blog post.
The idea was to fight against all the evils of the Internet that come in the garb of business. Anonymous has no central leadership. In fact, there is no hierarchy in the group. Wikipedia describes Anonymous as “an Internet gathering” with “a very loose and decentralized command structure that operates on ideas rather than directives”. The group which is represented by men and women wearing the esoteric Guy Fawkes mask became known for a series of well-publicized publicity stunts and distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks on government, religious, and corporate websites that they believe to be involved in cyber wrongdoings.
A bug in the newly released iOS 9.3.1 iPhone 6s & iPhone 6s Plus models and can be exploited via Siri. Attackers can bypass an iPhone’s lock screen using a Siri search and access the user’s contacts list and private photos. Users may be aware of a similar bug which plagued iOS 9.3 and was fixed in September by Apple. The current bug looks pretty much similar to the earlier one and cause twice as much damage by giving access to the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus private album and contacts to hackers Jose Rodrigues discovered this issue and made a proof-of-concept video, embedded below.
According to the company, the issue was caused due to a Windows 11 update (KB5016691) released in late August, which blocked users who recently added a Microsoft account from signing in to Windows 11 for the first time. However, the Redmond giant clarified that the issue does not affect Active Directory domain users or Azure Active Directory accounts. “After installing KB5016691 and adding a new Microsoft account user in Windows, you might be unable to sign in for a brief time after the first restart or sign out.
The extension, dubbed “SHARPEXT” by Volexity researchers has been linked to the North Korean-backed threat group, ‘SharpTongue’, which also goes by the name ‘Kimsuky’. SharpTongue has a history of targeting and victimizing individuals employed for organizations in the United States, Europe, and South Korea who work on topics involving North Korea, nuclear issues, weapons systems, and other matters of strategic interest to North Korea.” According to the researchers, in September 2021, Volexity began observing an interesting, undocumented malware family used by SharpTongue.
The NVIDIA GeForce features a Turing TU117-150 GPU with 512 CUDA cores, which is lower than the GeForce GTX 1650 model which offers 896 cores. The graphics card comes with 4GB of GDDR6 memory clocked at 12Gbps on a 64-bit memory bus, a massive reduction from the 128-bit bus. It features a TDP of 75W and core clocks running at 1785 MHz. Further, the GTX 1630 graphics card delivers a maximum bandwidth of 96 GB/s, which is half that of the GTX 1650 GPU.
The issue, tracked as CVE-2022-32893 (CVSS score: 8.8), is an out-of-bounds write issue affecting WebKit that may lead to arbitrary code execution when processing maliciously crafted web content. The iOS 12.5.6 update likely addresses two major security vulnerabilities that Apple patched earlier this month with the release of iOS 15.6.1, iPadOS 15.6.1, and macOS Monterey 12.5.1, as part of updates shipped on August 18, 2022. These fixes are now extended to older iPhone and iPad models that cannot update to 15.
For those unaware, the “air-gapped system” refers specifically to independent physical devices deployed in any network that is entirely isolated from any connection like a network or the internet. It also does not have any hardware that can communicate wirelessly, like wireless Bluetooth or Wi-Fi hardware. According to the study, the attackers use the SATA cable itself as a wireless transmitter to transfer radio signals at the 6GHz frequency band where the transmission via SATA cables is the most effective.
